'Model Validation Checks' is a tool used to determine whether or not a character model has any issues prior to rigging.

It is located on the Arise Maya shelf.

[tutorial doc]

In a new Maya scene, open the character model and only the character model.
The character must face the positive Z world axis, so be sure to rotate it if it is not.

Do not use this tool in the rigging scene!

The run button will run all the checks on all the objects in the Maya scene.

The refresh button will reset the checks.

A list of checks is displayed in the tool UI, made up of three sections:

  • Checks in the top section MUST pass before ARISE can be used (errors).
  • In the 2nd section you will find problems with the model that you should fix (warnings).
  • In the third section, you are advised of possible problems and ways you can check your model (such as 'Holes In Meshes', which lets you select all border edges and see if there are any holes that need to be closed) (minor warnings).

All checks have a 'select' button to see the problem, and most checks have an auto 'Fix' button.

To learn more about each check, press the two arrows down buttons.

Once all of the error checks have passed and all of the warnings and minor warnings have been looked at, save the scene and use 'Model Updater' to import it into the rigging scene.
