It is important to make sure the character model is set up correctly before we start rigging.
This is why we created the 'Model Validation Checks'.
Steps:
- In Maya, open the character model in a new scene (Be sure that only the character models are in the scene).
- The character must face the positive Z world axis, so rotate it if it isn't.
- Click on 'Model Validation Checks' on the 'Arise' shelf.
Model Validation interface:As you can see, there are many checks to run on the model parts.- 'Errors' - In order for ARISE to work, the top section of the checks must pass.
- 'Warnings' - The middle checks section informs you about problems with the model you should fix.
- 'Minor Warnings' - In the last section, you are informed of possible problems and ways to check your model (such as 'Holes in Meshes', which lets you select all border edges and see if there are any holes that should be closed).
All checks contain a 'Select' button to view the problem, and most checks include a 'Fix' button.
- To run all the checks, click the arrow button at the top of the UI.
- If any checks fail in the top section (errors), they MUST be corrected by clicking their 'Fix' button or manually fixed.
- After preparing the model, save the Maya scene.
By preparing and saving the model in its own scene, it will be easier to update the model at a later date if it changes.
Models should never be modified or tweaked in the rig scene.
We will soon show you how to import this model scene into a rigging scene and start rigging it.
